Gregory L. "Skip" Olney
Gregory L. "Skip" Olney was born in 1947 in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was an Army brat who attended 16 different schools prior to graduating from high school in Columbus, Georgia. He attended the Citadel, was commissioned a second lieutenant upon his graduation, and served in the infantry in the United States Army; he is a Viet Nam War combat veteran. He left the Army in 1973 as a captain and went to Iowa where he farmed for seven years, raising corn, soybeans, and livestock.
In 1980 Mr. Olney enrolled at Stetson University College of Law and graduated in December 1982. From 1982 to 1986 he served as an assistant state attorney, during which time he conducted more than 50 jury trials and developed into a senior felony prosecutor entrusted with some of the most sensitive prosecutions handled by the Office of the State Attorney. Mr. Olney joined this firm in 1986, and since that time has handled more than 3000 criminal cases.
He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in "The Law and Leading Attorneys Florida Consumers Guide Book," first edition, as a leading criminal defense attorney. Mr. Olney is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest professional and ethical rating awarded. He is a member of the Clearwater Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, Pinellas County Trial Lawyers Association, and Pinellas County Criminal Defense Bar. He is admitted to practice before all state courts in the state of Florida, the United States District Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Skip is married to Jan Hunter Olney, a career prosecutor who is the lead trial attorney for Felony Division T at the Pinellas County State Attorney's Office. Jan and Skip have four children, Billy, Nikki, Carrie and Joe and one grandson.
